2020 Vision

I love the way I feel on New Year’s Eve. Over the past few years, I feel like I’ve looked at the new year with new eyes. Eyes that say, “Anything is possible.”

Maybe it’s because I’m older and no longer see NYE as just another excuse to get drunk. Or maybe it’s because since I’ve become a Christian, a new year feels like we get a fresh start from our past mistakes. A second chance to do better. Whatever the reason… I love this feeling.

Now, on a far less serious note, I have been waiting at least 6 months to see all of the “punny” memes about the new year being 2020. I mean there are so many ways you can go with that, but I’ve gotta say I’m a little disappointed in the internet. I’ve seen a few, but not nearly as many as I thought I would see.

Ridiculous memes aside, I love that the new year is 2020. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. My physical vision is nowhere near 2020. But for this year… I can walk around saying that I’ve got 2020 vision. And so can you.

The New Year is a time where everyone takes some time to reflect on the previous year and think about what they want for the upcoming year. Only this time, I’ve been thinking about it for quite a while. And though I am usually one to journal quite often, I read a blog by Larry Stockstill recently (you can read it here) that reminded me that I need to write down my goals. And as I began to do just in my journal this morning, I thought that maybe I should write about it here.

One of the things that Larry says in his blog is to pick the top 10 things you would like to see changes in for this new year. Then he said to write a goal for each thing and two action steps to reach those goals. I strongly encourage you to do something like this, because it really helps to get that fire going. Here’s what mine looks like…

Obviously, yours will likely look completely different, but the idea is the same.

Even though I am a strong believer in writing things down and journaling often, I think this is the first time I’ve written down my goals for the new year. Especially in this way. And I believe it will help, because I plan to put this somewhere that I will see it everyday. Not just as a reminder of what I hope to achieve, but also as a reminder of what to pray for.

I recently saw a post on Facebook that made me stop and think. It really convicted me. This is the picture…

This was so powerful to me because I can complain and complain all day long about my weight, my finances, my relationships with people, my attitude towards others, etc. but if I don’t do anything to change those things, then I am choosing to stay overweight, in debt, lonely, and with a negative mindset.

So, instead, I am choosing to walk into 2020 with a clear vision of the things I want to change and the only ways I know to change them. Then I will trust God to do what I cannot. I pray you can do the same.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

In addition to the blog written by Larry Stockstill, there are some videos that I’ve watched recently that I believe anyone could benefit from. The links for them are below.

Transformation Church | Crazy Faith Series — This is probably the longest sermon series I have ever seen, but every message was soooo good and will definitely help to build your faith.

T.D. Jakes | Master Builder — This is a long one, but worth it. There’s so much in it that I still haven’t finished watching it all.

Steven Furtick, Elevation Church | Don’t Make A Scene — This is an older message that they recently reposted, but it was the first time I heard it. It was such a good reminder to let go of the picture you had for your life and focus on the picture God has for your life.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did. And don’t forget that I’d love to be praying for you. Be sure to let me know how I can do that by commenting below.
