Who's at the Masquerade

Slow melodic music fills the air, and you see everyone swaying back and forth. The room is engulfed in decorations of all colors. The ladies are adorned with ballroom dresses, and the men stand up tall with suits and ties on. You continue to make your way further into this room, with no knowledge of anyone’s identity. The people’s faces are covered with various types of mask and most of them are amazingly beautiful. But then you think for a second… Why can't they show their faces?

As we embrace the dance floor of life, we can become incapable of recognizing our authentic selves. We have no idea that we have gradually become a part of this masquerade. Until one day we look into the mirror and can no longer identify who we see.  We find that we have worked hard to keep up with culture, which screams loudly, “You are (fill in the blank)” or “You should be this.” We find ourselves trapped on this ballroom floor that’s made up of lies, unrest, and marred views.

Everyday we get on the dance floor and we dance to multiple rhythms in order to be liked or loved. Even as we dance, we know there is more but we don’t realize we are the one conducting the floor. The floor of who, or what, you say? The floor of our lives.

The guests at the masquerade are all the people we have tried to be. The people for whom we have performed. They are the people from our past, and the ones we have allowed into our future.

So, go tear away at the mask. Let light break through the shadows of the guests. Revisit the mirror with your Father's eyes. See that the reflection of who you really are is in Him. He wants you to live a life of originality, the way He made you to be.

Take off the mask.
